Vertical Rescue 5 day course

This course is designed to give you the knowledge and skills to deal with emergencies that could occur within the context of outdoor recreational activities at height. Training covers anchor systems, approach to the casualty, vertical mobility, evacuating a casualty to safe ground, plus a range of specialist units to adapt the course to your needs. Training is designed to be realistic and customised to suit your particular situation.

 

Course Schedule:

Day 1.   General course introduction, review exams, equipment, knots, anchor systems, rope management, practical abseiling skills, descending systems, retrievable abseil systems descending with a heavy backpack, emergency procedures.

Day 2.   Improvised descending systems, self-belay systems, knot by-pass, improvised harness, vertical mobility skills,

Day 3.   Assisted abseil, lowering systems, suspended patient extraction

Day 4.   Hauling systems (mechanical advantage), revision of skills, dealing with an emergency

Day 5.   Assessment

 

Who can take part?

Participants must have a reasonable level of fitness (ie should be able to walk briskly for 20 minutes with out being out of breath).  Minimum age is 16 years old.

Speak, read and understand the English language.

When and where?

Usual times are 8.30am – 4.30pm.  Conducted over 4 days plus 1 day of assessment.  Located at Onkaparinga Gorge and The Bluff Victor Harbor  Full details will be supplied on booking.

 

What should I bring/wear? 

  Loose fitting clothing appropriate for the weather.

 Personal medication.

 Lunch and snacks for the day.

 Water – approx ½ l per hour on hot days

 Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses.

 Hair ties or scrunches if you have long hair.

 Lace up shoes, eg, walking shoes or boots, sandshoes are sufficient.

 Pen and paper

What is supplied?

We supply all personal protection equipment and qualified leaders.

 

What about transport?

Transport can be provided for groups or individual at a small extra fee depending on collection location.  

 

What about photos/videos?

Clients can bring their own camera/video cameras
